Cravings Killing? Here’s Healthier Alternatives to Sugar!
On occasion eating a fine dessert or piece of dark chocolate boosts your serotonin and that’s a good thing. But too much of a good thing, isn’t usually great. Unfortunately; I guess that’s God’s sense of humor! Do you enjoy indulging in sweet treats that are full of refined sugar a little too much? Are those refined suger cravings killing you?
If so, you probably cannot get enough of the sweetness, so a small taste doesn’t suffice. Luckily, there are many healthier alternatives to sugar to partake in. Read everything below to learn about some of these sweet alternatives.
Monk Fruit Sweetener
Unlike sugar, monk fruit sweetener has no calories. This makes weight gain from calories a non-issue. In addition to this, monk fruit sweetener has all the sweetness of sugar without causing high blood sugar.
Stevia is a Cravings Killer Too
Like monk fruit sweetener, stevia does not have any calories. Since it is so sweet, a little bit of stevia goes a long way. Instead of mixing a lot of sugar with other ingredients to bake desserts, you can either mix a little bit of stevia with a little bit of sugar or replace sugar with stevia altogether. Either way, you will use less sugar and still be able to enjoy sweets without as many overwhelming health repercussions.
Honey
Honey contains a lot of nutrients and antioxidants that can promote bone growth and keep you from getting sick. Also, honey can potentially reduce anxiety and blood sugar levels. However, since it still has a lot of calories and sugar, it should be used in small amounts. For every cup of sugar, you should use three-quarters of a cup of honey.
Applesauce
If you enjoy eating apples, why not make yourself some applesauce? Applesauce goes well with most foods. Enjoy it with grilled chicken and vegetables for dinner. While it does have a lot of natural sugar, that is healthier than processed sugar. There are different ways you can make applesauce, which can make this treat even healthier. For instance, you can add healthy spices to give your applesauce more flavor, nutrients, and fiber. You can also make it with different types of apples.
Baked Apples Can Kill Those Cravings
One of my tricks is baking an apple with stevia and cinnamon to calm my dessert at night craving. I add a dollop of whipped topping just to add that special feeling of a treat on top. If you’re needing a little crunch, add some nuts or granola on top. Then, your apple turns into a healthy crisp.
Blackstrap Molasses
Blackstrap molasses contains various vitamins and minerals. Some of these include vitamin B6, calcium, potassium, manganese, and iron. In addition to having nutrients, it has more antioxidants than many other sugar alternatives. Blackstrap molasses can be used as a delicious sweetener for baking.
While none of these alternatives to sugar are perfectly healthy, they still have many benefits that you cannot get from refined sugar.
